It is a reason to be in Lyon and you can restaurants to satisfy every need and desire. The best place to wander in search of nourishment is Vieux Lyon although you will get better value for your euro at the tip of Presqu'ile. If you are looking for something really affordable and very French then look for a bouchon or cork, deriving its name form the number of corks popped and the copious amounts of wine imbibed in these places along with the food of course! The best area to fin d these places is in the Terreaux area specially on Rue Mercière. Paul Bocuse, 40 rue de la Plage, (tel 04.72.42.90.90). This is the city's most famous restaurant that takes it name from it famous owner and so it is not cheap for the traditional french country cuisine that is served. If you do go then try the crême brûlée . La Meunière, 11 rue Neuve,r (tel 04.78.28.62.91. One of the best Bouchon in the city and so booking is essential but the food is delicious and the prices are give aways. Unfortunately it closes during the summer months. Café des Fédérations, 8 rue du Major-Martin, (tel 04.78.28.26.00). This is a very classic sawdust on the floor bouchon that serves tripe and black pudding so the food matches the ambience and so do the prices. Le Petit Glouton, 56 rue St-Jean, (tel 04.78.74.30.12). This is a very cheap and cheerful little bistro where you can sit out on the street and enjoy very low priced food. L'Amphitryon, 33 rue St-Jean, (tel 04.78.37.23.68). The fac tthat this restaurant is crowded is a good indication of the quality of the food and the low prices . Brasserie 24 Collonnes a la Une, 79 rue des Trois Maries. This is a beautifully decored brasserie of mirrors and stained glass that has reasonably priced offerings and the best thing about it is it turns into a jazz and piano bar after dark. Chez Léon, 102 cours Lafayette, (tel 04.78.62.30.28). There is a chex Leon everywhere the french and their relatives want to serve seafood and better still snails and this one is no exception. As a seafood restaurant it is not expensive and so worth a visit. Léon de Lyon, 1 rue Pléney, (tel 04.78.28.11.33). This is an upmarket restaurant with small intimate divides to create a wonderful atmosphere of warmth and privacy that does sophisticated creations in addition to traditional recipes. As you may expect it is rather expensive. La Mère Brazier, 12 rue Royale, (tel 04.78.28.15.49). This is a rather expensive restaurant thaht does wonderful food but it is very easy to overspend to fill your tummy. Top of the choice list has to be the truffle crepes. La Tour Rose, 22 rue, (tel 04.78.37.25.90). This restaurant does the best salads and the most interesting sauces. The price is worth it to taste the oyster mousse and the truffle sauce over the spinach. |
